Saat sedang di suatu mall di Kuala Lumpur, gue ditanya oleh seorang turis bule,” Excuse me, your shirt is good. It is batik, right ? Where did you buy it ?” dan gue jawab “Thanks for your compliment, but I bought this from my country, Indonesia, not from around here.” Dan dia kelihatan sangat kaget, “Oh yeah..I thought Batik is malay’s origin. I saw they sell it there” sambil menunjuk ke luar gedung. Gue hanya tertawa, dan menjawab, “No, actually batik from Indonesia. When I came a week ago, I brought along several shirts for my friends here. Maybe the seller outside sell Indonesian batik too, because we already export it to many countries all over the world.” Dia menjawab, “No, they said, those are their home made . But what your wearing now, much more beautiful.” Gue malas berdebat kusir, “Have you ever come to Indonesia ? I don’t think u have. Do come and see yourself in Solo, Jogja, or Bali. There are so many shops sell this kind of Batik I’m wearing now, and u can see they draw it infront of u. We, Indonesian have been producing traditional batik from hundred years ago, because it is our national heritage. May be the seller here, saying that because their ancestor came from Indonesia too. U just see it yourself, OK.” Lalu dia menjawab,”But I heard from my embassy, your country is not safe. There are so many demonstration around, and they train terorist in your country. Besides, the airport is bad. So dirty and full of bad people.” Lemes deh gue denger ungkapan kayak begituan. Mau menyangkal, tapi semalam nonton berita di hotel baru bom Ritz Carlton, soal demo mah gak usah dibilang deh, hampir tiap hari ada. Soal airport jorok dan banyak tukang palaknya, gue sendiri mengalami dan menyadari betul. Gue cuma menanggapi dengan senyum, “oh, I don’t think there is any place which is really safe in this world, especially the developing country. But I have several western friends who have been working in Jakarta for years, and they are still, until now. This is my name card., please gv me call when you come, I shall introduce you to some of them. May be I can show u around, OK.” Maju terus bangsaku, Jangan mau dihina terus.
